Life begins at 7,000rpm

I drove a Perodua Viva 1.0l automatic (non Premium with 13" wheel), not an exactly a fast car but I know this car inside out, how to get the best fuel consumption, where are the maximum torque is (which RPM) etc. Most of the time I just drive it around 3,000-3,600rpm because that is where the torque tops at, and maximum fuel saving could be achieved at around 3,000rpm at top gear (usually around 90km/h-100km/h depending on road)

I been driving this car for more than 2 years now, at most I have done 150km/h, usually just at 140km/h, on top gear and that is its limitation. I always thought that an extra gear would probably makes it go faster but not after I read few posts on Viva Club forum, saying that DROPPING gear means faster top speed. I don't believe that and never tried it until recently

Its a regular drive around noon, going back to MIAT from my house which is a 66km drive. I say to myself why don't I test this car top speed according to the forum, I mean, does it possible? I usually drop gear to reduce speed without braking around the bend but NEVER used it for faster driving. My car is bog standard, but I done few tweaks on my own, like improve grounding and a 40,000uF of capacitor that act as voltage regulator on the battery.

After been driving for about 20 minutes and the engine is comfortable at high speed around 120km/h I going to start this suicide test. I put both my hand on steering (usually I just drive with one hand, or none on highway) and focused my eyes on the road and on the speedometer.

At 145km/h at top speed it just stay there and won't go any faster, dropping the gear and I just hear the engine howling at different pitch than it usually do at lower RPM, it screams at 5,500rpm and the more I push the throttle, the faster it goes. I have such fun that I never had before and before I knew it I past the 150km/h barrier and it just keeps on going! I can't see the speedo well because I kept my eyes on the road most of the time, but I do manage to see it registers 165km/h at a whopping 7,000rpm. The engine don't make a high pitch hollow sound like at 3,000-4,000rpm but its more like a low bellow-high pitch full kind of sound. I LOVED IT. But since Malaysian road is crappy and crazily bumpy that is as fast as I could go. Amazingly the car react well at that speed, it don't jumping about and feel light on the steering, feels like it knows that I gonna trash it and ready for it! That is one of the best day for driving.

I just mod the stock airbox and removed the annoying snake-like piping that restrict cold air from going to the engine, but by doing so it more prone to dust and water. I don't fully tested it yet but it seems like it now the engine received more air and rev more easily, and the hollow high pitch sound at 3,000-4,000rpm had gone and replaced with meatier low bellow sound! I going to further test it whether it will affect fuel consumption or not

  2. Life without a challenge is a life not worth living. I do that just to test my driving skill and the car ability, and its not like I do it recklessly. I done a lot of driving, testing my driving skill, checking the car on regular intervals before doing anything like this
